YOUR DATA

Q: Is my data secure?

With Geek Squad Online Data Backup you can be sure that all of your important data, files, photos, financial records and more are completely secure. Read on to learn how.

All accounts require usernames and passwords before they can be accessed. All login information is encrypted (128 bit) so even if someone were to breach all of our formidable security measures, they would only end up with unintelligible characters.

When you select the extra encryption option in the software client, your files are encrypted with AES 256-bit encryption before they are transmitted to the backup server. During transmission, your data is sent through an additional 128-bit encrypted tunnel to the server and is stored ‘at rest’ and at all times in encrypted format. This provides two layers of encryption, protecting your data as it moves through the Internet to the secure data center.

Q: Why do some Netscape users have problems downloading files, and what can be done about it?

A. When a person using Netscape 7.0 receives a file through Share Large Files and tries to save the file to their computer, they may encounter a problem. Netscape 7.0 changes the filename slightly and this can cause difficulties. When the option to save the file is selected, Netscape pre-fills in the file name, but for unknown reasons it appends .asp to the end of the original file name. For example, the file businessplan.doc would be saved as businessplan.doc.asp. To correct this problem, you should delete the .asp extension and the file will then be saved intact. If this extension is not removed, the file cannot be opened in its intended program. Earlier versions of Netscape do not exhibit this behavior.

Share Large Files

Q. What is the Share Large Files service?

A. The Share Large Files service allows you to send a file of any size from your account to anyone with an email address. This service allows you to avoid email attachment limitations, because it doesn't send your file directly to the recipient. Instead, the recipient receives a file delivery notification email, which includes a link to the file download site. By following the link, the recipient can view or download the files you have sent. For your security, each link expires after 14 days, or five downloads - whichever comes first.
