A: Geek Squad Online Backup is an innovative tool that enables you to automatically back up your files to our secure servers, and access them from any PC via the Internet. You can select the files on your system that are most important to you (family photos, music, financial records etc.) and choose the frequency at which you would like them to be backed up to your remote storage location in your online account. Geek Squad Online Backup provides automatic back up, easy access and secure file storage, all in one.

Q: Where is my data stored?

A: All of the data stored on our servers is simultaneously mirrored on two different servers within our primary data center. It is then transmitted to a second storage facility nightly.

Q: Do I have to do something every time I want to back up?

A: Once you have set up your Geek Squad Online Data Backup account and your software is installed on your computer, all you have to do is make sure that your computer is on and connected to the Internet at your scheduled backup time. Geek Squad Online Data Backup takes care of the rest.

If you happen to miss a scheduled backup, the software will perform your backup the next time your computer is on and connected to the Internet.

Q: How do I change my password?

A: Changing your password is a two-step process. Both steps must be completed for the password change and your backups to be successful and secure. Your password is case sensitive.

STEP 1: OPEN A WEB BROWSER (for example, Internet Explorer)

  1. Login to www.geeksquad.com/backuplogin
  2. Click "Account Settings"
  3. Enter your new password and confirm
  4. Click "Submit"

STEP 2: OPEN YOUR GEEK SQUAD ONLINE BACKUP SOFTWARE (the orange & black desktop icon)

  1. If you need to log in, make sure you enter your new password
  2. Click "Settings"
  3. Enter your new password
  4. Click "Save Settings"

Q: How do I change my contact email address?

Login to your account here. Click Account Settings (on the left of the screen). Enter your new email address in the appropriate field and click Submit.

Q: How do I change my contact phone number?

Login to your account here. Click Billing Information (on the left of the screen). Enter your new phone number in the appropriate field and click Submit.

Q: How do I change or update my billing information?

Login to your account here. Click Billing Information (on the left of the screen). Update any information field and click Submit.

Q: How do I view my billing history?

Login to your account here. Click Billing Information (on the left of the screen). The option to view billing history is at the bottom of the page.

Q: How do I check how much storage space I have available?

A: There are two ways to check your available account space:

1. Via the Web

Login to your account here. At the top of your Home page you will see a gray bar illustrating your account space. This is the Account Status bar. As files are uploaded to your account, orange will slowly fill the gray bar; text at the base of the bar will indicate how many megabytes of space are used and how back up space is still available.

It can take a short time for the Account Status bar to update and it may not immediately reflect changes after uploads and deletions.

2. Via your Desktop

Double click on the Geek Squad Online Data Backup icon on your desktop or in the lower right corner of your screen. The Account Status bar is in the upper left cover of the screen that opens up.

Q: How do I buy more space for my Geek Squad Online Data Backup account?

A: Login to your account here. Choose Buy More Space (on the left of the screen). Once you make your selection and submit your order, your account size will be updated immediately and the data in your account will remain backed up and secure.

Q: How do I cancel my account?

A: To cancel your Geek Squad Data Online Backup account, please call 1 800 GEEKSQUAD.

Your backed up files will remain in your Geek Squad Data Online Backup account as long as your account is active. If you choose to cancel/close your Geek Squad Online Data Backup account, all files that remain in your account will be permanently deleted from storage.

Q: What are the System Requirements?

A: Geek Squad Online Data Backup has been engineered for Windows-based computers that are running Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Vista operating systems. Your computer must also have IE 6.x or higher. Geek Squad Online Data Backup functions best with a high-speed Internet connection.

Q: Do I need an Internet Connection?

A: Geek Squad Online Data Backup transfers data from your computer to your Geek Squad Online Backup account over the Internet. Your computer must be on and connected to the Internet, preferably a high-speed connection, for the transfer to be successful.

Q: How do I re-install the Geek Squad Online Data Backup software?

A: If you need to install or re-install the Online Data Backup software because you’ve had a hard drive failure, or some other reason, visit www.geeksquad.com/backuplogin, log in and click on the button Download Geek Squad Online Backup (left-side of your screen).

Q: If my family or I have more than one account, how do I move between those when I’m using the software?

A: Double click on the Geek Squad Online Data Backup icon on your desktop or in the lower right corner of your screen. Choose the Settings tab. Under Login Information, change your username and password in the appropriate fields and click Save Settings.
